Okay, BYU, good luck with that.

I think they’re completely insane. The MWC is already fairly respected, why not just stick it out and get a BCS bid? If Nevada and Fresno bail the WAC won’t be a viable D1 conference.

Not even ND deserves the deal it’s got from the BCS.

Just like ND – meaning completely irrelevant in football?

    They’re already there.

    ZING!

People need to stop throwing out “Notre Dame of the West”. No BYU official has ever made that comparison. It was a statement made by ESPN. In fact, the Athletic Director Tom Holmoe clearly said that we know we are NOT Notre Dame.

It’s an obvious comparison of course b/c they’re both religious schools, but BYU fans do not believe we have the same cachet as ND, the comparison is a strawman.

BYU is not trying to be ND, they are trying to reach their fans who are geographically spread-out beyond the mtn.tv footprint (this is the MWC’s HORRIBLE tv deal), as well as non-fans to get more eyes on their product on the field. It just so happens they have already invested (over decades) tons of money in broadcasting infrastructure that would better allow their fans to see ALL of their football games than the mtn channel, and not just those that Versus decides to pick up.

I actually think it could work, although this season could be an interesting one. If BSU gets into the CCG that changes everything. If all you need is one 1.5 good OOC wins and a rummaging of your garbage schedule, it seems best to stay in the Mountain West. If not, play 4-5 serious BSC-conference games and then clean up the WAC and hope that is good enough to be considered.
