Be Done With It

24 Aug

Dear Anybody In The Big Ten Offices,

If it will put a halt to nonsensical tripe like this, just put Ohio State and Michigan in the same division for our collective sanity.  Let them play their game.  And then, let’s agree to stop pretending that time stands still throughout the rest of nation (and conference) during that game.

I confess that sometimes, I watch OSU vs. Michigan. Unless Yale vs. Harvard is on.

I like OSU-Michigan! Really, I do. But everyone associated with this issue has to make a decision — would you rather have a remote shot at a OSU-Michigan championship game, or play the game every year?

If there are protected rivalries, of course, OSU/UM can be in different divisions, play their game in October, and then conceivably meet up in the championship game in late November. But that somehow ruins the game and blah blah blah.

I don’t care what they do. I really don’t. I just don’t want to have to read 100 more columns similar to Wetzel’s whiny crap. It’s a classic “eat your cake and have it, too” scenario, and these blowhards are going to have to give up something. The world doesn’t revolve around Ohio State vs. Michigan anymore.

FJM, during their prime, couldn’t have written a better satirical second paragraph than that gem.

In all seriousness, why don’t they just let them choose, same division, last game. Different divisions, first Saturday in October?

It’s their game, let them decide. Frankly though, I don’t see how they can play in October, you know before the crops are in. Jesus.

I propose if they want UM-OSU in one division, that they also get Iowa, Wisconsin, and MSU.

We’ll take Nebraska and humiliate Indiana and Minnesota on a weekly basis, then play the Huskers for a winner take all division game.

Its magical really. After the government subsidized high fructose corn syrup is in and the Michigan fans have settled in to their $85,000 luxury suites, tGame is played. And Ohio State shares another Big 10 title with a team that beat them head to head. Tradition.

I have to figure out how to allow comment rec’ing. Although half the time I would just say rec’d and not do it anyway.

95% of the fanbases of both teams would choose the “same division, last game” option. Its the garbage programs that are trying to break the two up, in order to avoid having the game overshadow the Rotel Big Ten Championship Game.

I don’t think that’s true, X-Pac. The problem appears to lie with the incredibly short-sighted Big Ten officials who think that the twice-in-a-decade OSU v. Michigan championship game is worth moving the regular season game to October.

I can’t really believe that they think it’s a good idea. They can’t be that stupid.

[...] As and objective observer I don’t really have an opinion of what splitting Ohio State and Michigan means for the conference as a whole, although I will say that if I was part of either fanbase I would be against the possibility of a rematch. But half-baked guesses are happening anyway (thrown together between all the crops I had to bring in): [...]
